I've removed the clutch arm, dip stick, etc and given the cover a good clean and degrease.
The cover has lots of scratches and some oxidation of the aluminium.
The stator cover is the same story. I've removed the starter gear cover and gears, and the two inspection caps.
Also cleaned and degreased as well.
I've sanded the clutch cover down to remove the scratches. I've tried not to round off any of the sharper edges. I've made sure to sand the oxidation back to bare metal.
I've covered up areas that shouldn't be painted with masking tape.
I use cheap roasting trays as parts trays. The last ones I bought came with roasting racks too. They work really well as paint racks so the part doesn't stick to the surface it's resting on.
It was pretty cold in the shed (put still above the minimum recommended temp for the paint) but I gave it a bit of a helping hand with a heat lamp for 10 minutes.
I sanded the stator cover the same as the clutch cover, then masked off the areas I didn't want paint.
I also masked the inspection cover holes.
Two light coats. The colour match for the OEM paint is really good, it was difficult to see where I had and hadn't painted. I made sure to cover the entire cover.
Covered the area that had been sanded back to bare metal due to corrosion.
10 minutes on the heat lamp to help the paint cure.
The next day. Not bad!
